F9U - FPV Drone Racing (Belgium)

F9U is the official international class for FPV drone racing. It provides a shared set of rules that helps clubs and organizers run races in a safe, fair, and consistent way, so results and event formats are comparable from one competition to another.

FPV stands for First Person View. Pilots fly small, fast racing drones through a course of gates and obstacles while watching a live video feed from a camera on the drone, usually through FPV goggles. The goal is simple: complete the course as fast as possible without missing gates.

F9U exists to bring structure to the sport. It defines how races are run, how timing and rankings are handled, and what basic safety expectations should be in place for pilots and spectators. With this framework, FPV drone racing becomes a clear and accessible sport that can be organized locally while still aligning with international standards.

World Drone Racing Championship 2026 – China 🇨🇳

After a period of uncertainty regarding a World Drone Racing Championship in 2026, the FAI has announced that a proposal has been received to organise the FAI World Drone Racing Championship (WDRC) 2026 in Guangzhou, China, from 8 to 13 December 2026.

Final approval and further official information from the FAI are still expected.

The WDRC is the official World Championship for F9U Drone Racing, bringing together some of the fastest drone racing pilots from around the world. Unlike the FAI Drone Racing World Cup, where pilots compete individually, Belgium is represented at the World Championship by an official Belgian national team.

🇧🇪 Belgium is getting ready!

For F9U Belgium, this announcement means that preparations for a possible Belgian participation can now begin.

The Belgian team will be selected according to the selection criteria established in the F9U Belgium Sporting Rules for the 2026 season. Results from the Belgian Championship rounds within the defined selection period will determine which pilots are eligible to represent Belgium. The results can be see on this page.

With only a very short period between the announcement and the possible World Championship in December, there is a lot to organise: team selection, pilot availability, registration, travel arrangements and funding.

🌍 Belgium at the WDRC

The previous FAI World Drone Racing Championship was held in Hangzhou, China, in 2024. In 2026, the world's best drone racing pilots may once again meet in China to compete for the title of World Champion.

And F9U Belgium intends to be there. 🇧🇪
